"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyong measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,
talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people
won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine,
as children do. We were born to make mainfest the glory of God
that is within us. It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously
give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence
automatically liberates others'.
From my understanding this poem was originally released by W.E.B Debois. I have since seen other people to claim it as their own. Maybe the changed a verse here and there I don't know But this poem has significance to me because so often we are afraid to show our light or to step into. This is something we all must rise to the occasion. We must take a leap of faith and move forward otherwise the gifts and talents that we came with to share with the world will be lost forever and who knows the person or life you might have saved from sharing what you know. I for one will not hide any longer. I sharing all that I can with whoever will listen.
