I only write in this blog about things that I have experienced.  As you can see from the many things that are in this blog, I have experienced quite a few things.  I will probably experience a whole lot more because I have a curious nature and because I want to live a rich and full life.
A couple of years ago, I decided that I would start sun gazing because I wanted to know what that was like.  I have this idea that I would at some point like to stop eating and live off the sun the way it was done in ancient times.  Now, I am not actually sure it is possible today considering that we have an 30 foot intestinal track that as grown since the beginning of humankind.  But, that won't stop me in my quest should I decide that it is truly something I want to do.  I don't care what are the throughts of others and if people think that this is a crazy idea.  This is my life and I will live it as I see fit.  How about that!!

Sungazing is a meditative practice that involves staring directly at the Sun for short periods of time during sunrise and sunset.  Some practitioners ascribe a range of health and spiritual benefits from the practice, though it is controversial.  I personally practice sungazing for many reasons, all of which benefit me in a myriad of ways.  I am healthier, more aware, more conscious, compassionate and patient because I sungaze.  This morning when I was sitting out and looking at the sun, I saw these symbols, they seem to be coming from the sun.  I wish I had someone to talk to about this, who also sungazes but as of yet, I have not found them.  I think that I am so ahead of time with the things that I do that it often leaves me feeling sad but then I remember why I do the things that I do and just keep going. Many sungazers stand barefoot on the earth and look directly at the sun for 10 seconds.  Every day, they add 10 more seconds and some of them reach as much as 44 minutes which is a lot of time.  I don't stand, I sit because I am lazy.  I started out at 15 minutes and I am now up to 30 minutes a day.  I don't advise you to start out at 15 minutes, I did my oracle readings and determine I could start at 15 minutes.  I also have dark brown eyes which have a lot a melanin in them which protects me from the sun rays, as I am of african decent.  So I have a relationship with the sun.  I do not abuse it and I don't sit in the sun for hours tanning.

The theory is that the sun is the force of all life, and staring at it can infuse the body with large amounts of energy.  I was reading that you could visualize a tube running up and down the entire length of the spine, which it does and see the 3 spinal energy channels flowing, the central channel which is the sushumna, the ida and the pingala .Of course, I don't do that but I feel the energy circulating but I circulate my energy everyday. In the article it says that one can also briefly focus on and relax, the throat and jaw areas.  This seems to help the energies flow and reduce the after-effects. Most beginners seem to start slowly, perhaps looking only at the sun with eyes closed for a few weeks, and then progressing to looking at a spot near the sun with eyes open for a few weeks, and then progressing finally to direct sungazing for a very short periods at first, at times just before sunset and just after sunrise.  Some die-hard sungazers in cooler climites seem to sometimes eventually progress to sungazing in midday even in summertime, the article says.  They must be really hard core, I would certainly not do that.  And I hope you would not either but people always break the rules and that is their choice. I myself seem to break alot of rules from time to time.

In the film, Eat the Sun, yes they made a movie about Sungazing, Hira Ratan Manek, claims to have gone eight years without eating.  He has been "eating" a steady diet of solar rays, and claims that this is all he needs for nourishment.  Well, this confirms it for me that it is possible, I think I would like to meet him.

Others have said that they notice some loss of vision in the center of the visual field seeing blurred light image of the sun for about 10 minutes following a session, and yet others reported having nasty headaches and sinus pains which may last for days afterward, especially in the beginning of sungazing this may be from a pre-existing toxic or damage tissue in that area.  The only side effect that I had was blurred vision which does go away shortly after a session and I still have that every day I sun gaze..

So here are the effects of sun gazing and why I enjoy the practice:

  • Boost production of melatonin and serotonin. Research shows sungazing stimulates the pineal gland as the direct sunlight hits the eye, moves through retinal-hypothalamic tract, and then hits the brain. 
  • Increases energy level and boost vitality.
  • Increases the actual size of the pineal gland. As we age the pineal gland shrinks probably from lack of use and it becomes calicified in most people. However, brain scans from a long-term practitioner of sungazing show that his pineal gland was actually three time the size of men his age.
  • Promotes weight loss.  One of the historical theories for sun gazing was that the body and mind could be nourished by the sun, reducing the need for food.  Similarly, some modern day sungazers say they have lost weight, and some even report a total loss of the desire to need to eat.

Our ancient civilizations all had a working relationsip with the sun.  They all participated in sun gazing as a form of nourishment and for the exoteric attributes it bestowned on the participants.  As I said early the practice can lead to very heavy cleansing especially if you are very toxic and are not cleasing your bidy on a regular basis.  Everyone is wired a little differently and this practice isn't for everyone, nor is it something I recommend to you.  If you choose to partake, do your own research, be careful, be cautious and document your experience.
